Yadkin Valley United Fund Winners Selected | 5-20-2019

David Steelman, Executive Director, announced today the recipients of the
Yadkin Valley United Fund Triple C Scholarships for 2019. This is the eighth year
the scholarships have been awarded to one senior each at East Wilkes, Elkin, and
Starmount High Schools. Triple “C” stands for Community, Commitment, and
Caring.
James Burcham was chosen from East Wilkes High School. He is the son of Kristie
and Mark Burcham and plans on attending Bluefield College. Zara Petrocy was
chosen from Elkin High School. She is the daughter of Peggy Petrocy and Ronnie
Gilmore and plans on attending UNC Chapel Hill. Marianna Acosta was chosen
from Starmount High School. She is the daughter of Mary Lou Rivera-Perez and
Jose David Acosta and plans on attending Catawba College. Each was awarded
$1,000 scholarships at their school year-end awards program.
The YVUF serves the communities of Elkin, Jonesville, Mountain Park, Ronda,
State Road, Thurmond, and Traphill by providing funding to 24 local non-profit
agencies as well as the scholarships. The 2020 campaign will kick off with a benefit
concert at The Reeves Saturday , August 17 and run thru November. Local wineries
will again do a “Wine Out for the Fund” August 24. 21 local restaurants will be doing
a “Dine Out for the Fund”. Three different restaurants will participate each Thursday,
September 5 through October 24.
